The Noble Act of Happiness

Imagine watching the credits of a children's movie, The Greatest Showman, and discovering an inspiring quote that categorizes your actions as a "noble act." Suddenly, you realize that your so-called "toxic trait" of caring for others is an entirely valid reason to continue doing so.
"The noblest act is that of making others happy." -P.T. Barnum

In the movie, the "art" refers to the joy and magic that comes from a circus of peculiar and unique persons. Kids were exposed to differences in humanity, where they were portrayed in a fascinating and iconic manner. The way P.T. Barnum's circus lifted spirits during troubling times of the 19th century coincides with the joy and happiness I wish to bring others.

I've been told I care about others more than myself, and I won't try to disagree with you. However, I will argue my point of what others' happiness means to me.

I would tell you...

On a day when I'm feeling defeated, and a friend laughs at a joke I made, this validates my sense of humor.

I would tell you...

Going all out on a typical day of babysitting is worth the giggles and memories, no matter how tired or how much money has been spent that day.

I would tell you...

The miles driven in my car are acceptable because I have traveled to bring happiness to others while also engaging and reflecting on my own happiness.

I would tell you...

Seeing the smiles of strangers after complimenting their outfits isn't as embarrassing and awkward as it seems.

--"So, you're a people pleaser?"
-- I am a noble people pleaser if that makes sense.

Noble (adjective): having, showing, or coming from personal qualities that people admire

It may be selfish, but knowing people find happiness in my presence significantly boosts my confidence. It reminds me that I'm not as bad of a person as my mind makes me out to be. It gives me inner peace when all my emotions feel jumbled, but hey, at least they're laughing!

Happiness is quite literally described as a positive emotion in our daily lives that is enough to keep moving day after day, such as pleasure, comfort, gratitude, hope, and inspiration. In some way, shape, or form, each person on Earth provides their own happiness to others.

So now, a question for you.

Do you believe that you are noble in the sense of bringing others happiness? Come on, give yourself some credit. Obviously, or else you wouldn't have any friends, and everyone at least has one friend, whether you consider yourselves that or not.

With love,
Jenna K.
